Thermoforming Toolmaker - Merseyside
£36,000+ per annum (negotiable DOE) | Days | 40 hours per week + Overtime
Permanent Position | Leading Manufacturer in the Packaging Sector

A well-established manufacturer in the packaging industry is seeking a Thermoforming Toolmaker to join its highly skilled and supportive Toolroom team. This is a days-based role offering long-term stability, modern working conditions, and a company culture that values precision, ownership, and continuous improvement.

The Role:

You’ll be responsible for designing, manufacturing, and maintaining precision thermoforming tools used in high-speed plastic production. Working with both traditional and CNC equipment, you’ll be hands-on with tooling from concept through to repair, helping deliver best-in-class quality to major FMCG clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manufacture, repair, and maintain thermoforming tools and moulds to exacting standards

• Interpret engineering drawings and product specifications

• Operate manual and CNC machinery (milling, turning, etc.)

• Use CAD software to support design and development (AutoCAD / SolidWorks preferred)

• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to troubleshoot tooling issues

• Record tool history, modifications, and maintenance activities

• Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives

Ideal Candidate:

• 5–10 years’ Toolmaking experience ideally within thermoforming, vacuum forming or similar sectors

• Time-served or qualified in mechanical/toolroom engineering

• Proficient with manual and CNC milling (Heidenhain control desirable)

• Strong fault-finding skills – mechanical focus

• CAD-literate (SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar)

• Familiar with BRC, ISO, or equivalent Quality Management Systems

• Positive, team-orientated and calm under pressure

• Flexible and willing to support overtime as needed

Desirable Extras:

• Experience with FMCG packaging

• Counterbalance FLT licence

• Health & Safety qualification (e.g. Fire Marshal, First Aid)

• HACCP Level 2

• Internal Auditor qualification (QMS)
