5S Recruitment are proud to be partnering with a well-established and highly respected plastics manufacturer to recruit an experienced Toolmaker for their modern manufacturing facility in East Yorkshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Toolmaker to join a successful business supplying high-quality plastic components into a range of demanding sectors. The role offers a varied workload, modern equipment, long-term stability, and the opportunity to work within a highly skilled engineering team. We are seeking a hands-on Toolmaker with strong experience in the manufacture, maintenance, repair, modification, and servicing of injection mould tools.
The Role
Reporting into the Toolroom Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring mould tools are maintained to the highest standards, supporting production efficiency, quality performance, and customer delivery requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance, servicing, and repair of injection mould tools.
- Diagnose tooling faults and implement effective corrective actions to minimise downtime.
- Strip, inspect, repair, modify, and rebuild mould tools as required.
- Manufacture replacement tool components using conventional toolroom machinery.
- Carry out bench fitting, polishing, grinding, and assembly activities.
- Support tooling improvement projects aimed at increasing tool performance and longevity.
- Work closely with Moulding, Quality, and Engineering teams to resolve production-related tooling issues.
- Assist with tool trials and commissioning activities.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and tooling documentation.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Contribute towards continuous improvement initiatives across the toolroom and manufacturing operation.
About You
- We are looking for an experienced Toolmaker who enjoys problem-solving and takes pride in producing high-quality work.
You will ideally have:
- Time-served apprenticeship in Toolmaking, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience working within an injection moulding toolroom environment.
- Strong knowledge of injection mould tool construction, maintenance, and repair.
- Experience using manual milling, turning, grinding, and fitting equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience fault-finding tooling issues and implementing permanent solutions.
- Good understanding of precision engineering tolerances.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Positive, proactive, and hands-on approach.
Desirable Experience
- EDM, Wire Erosion, or CNC machining experience.
- Hot runner system maintenance experience.
- Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles.
