The Opportunity for Toolmaker
5S Recruitment is working with a well-established plastics manufacturer looking to add a Tool Room Technician to support their tooling and maintenance function. This is a steady, days-based role within a business that understands the importance of a well-run toolroom in keeping production consistent and efficient. You’ll be supporting day-to-day toolroom activity, ensuring tools are maintained, available and performing as they should, rather than reacting to problems after they’ve already impacted production.
The Role
- You’ll be responsible for supporting toolroom operations, working closely with production, engineering and quality teams to maintain tooling standards and availability.
- Carrying out routine maintenance and inspection of tooling, cutting equipment and measuring instruments.
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs to minimise downtime.
- Supporting calibration of precision tools to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Maintaining toolroom inventory, including tracking usage and managing stock levels.
- Cleaning, organising and maintaining tools to ensure readiness and accessibility.
- Assisting with tool assembly and disassembly for maintenance and repair.
- Ensuring all work is carried out in line with health and safety procedures.
- Maintaining accurate documentation of maintenance, repairs and tool usage.
- Working collaboratively across departments to support operational performance.
- Participating in ongoing training and development to build technical capability.
About You
- Previous experience within a toolroom or maintenance role in a manufacturing environment.
- Basic understanding of tooling, machining equipment and precision measurement.
- Confident using hand and power tools for maintenance and repair tasks.
- Strong attention to detail with good organisational skills.
- Able to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
- Good communication skills and a proactive approach.
- Willingness to learn and develop within a technical environment.
The Package
- Salary up to £38,000 depending on experience.
- Days-based working pattern.
- Stable, long-term opportunity within an established plastics manufacturer.
- Ongoing training and development.
