The opportunity
A well-established precision injection moulding manufacturer is recruiting an experienced Injection Mould Setter to join its manufacturing operation in Leicester.
The company manufactures tightly controlled technical components using advanced, flame-retardant and glass-filled engineering polymers. Its products support demanding applications across the electrical, automotive, medical and alternative-energy sectors.
This is a technically interesting position within a genuine precision moulding environment, offering exposure to complex components, specialist materials, modern injection moulding equipment and an on-site Toolroom.
The position
Working across a 3-shift system, you will be responsible for setting and supporting injection moulding machines to deliver safe, efficient and consistent production.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Completing mould changes safely and efficiently
- Setting injection moulding machines and associated ancillary equipment
- Starting machines and bringing production processes up to the required standard
- Working from approved setting sheets and process documentation
- Setting and optimising temperatures, pressures, speeds and cycle times
- Processing engineering polymers, including glass-filled and flame-retardant materials
- Diagnosing and correcting moulding defects and process instability
- Completing material and colour changes
- Setting robots, dryers, temperature-control units and other ancillary equipment
- Conducting first-off checks before handing production over
- Monitoring quality, cycle time, scrap and machine performance
- Working closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance and Toolroom colleagues
- Escalating tooling or machinery problems when further technical support is required
- Supporting continuous-improvement and waste-reduction activities
- Maintaining high standards of safety, housekeeping and 5S
- Accurately completing production and process documentation
About you
The successful Injection Mould Setter will ideally have:
- Previous experience setting plastic injection moulding machines
- The ability to complete mould changes and process start-ups independently
- Strong injection moulding process knowledge
- Experience identifying and resolving common moulding defects
- Knowledge of engineering thermoplastics
- Experience setting robots and moulding ancillary equipment
- A good understanding of quality-led manufacturing
- A methodical and practical approach to fault-finding
- The ability to work accurately with tightly controlled components
- A positive attitude towards safety, quality and continuous improvement
- The flexibility to work across a 3-shift system
Experience processing glass-filled, flame-retardant or other high-performance engineering polymers would be particularly valuable. Experience with Arburg machinery, micro-moulding, precision components or automotive and medical-sector requirements would also be advantageous.
