The Opportunity
5S Recruitment is working with a long-established manufacturer looking to recruit an experienced Extrusion Setter to support their components operation on nights. This is a hands-on technical role within a busy production environment where consistency, clean changeovers and stable processes are expected as standard. If you take pride in getting machines running right first time, maintaining quality and avoiding unnecessary downtime, you’ll fit well into this environment.
The Role
- You’ll take responsibility for setting, running and maintaining extrusion machinery, ensuring production remains stable, efficient and aligned to specification.
- Setting and operating extrusion machines in line with production requirements and safety procedures.
- Installing, aligning and adjusting dies, screws, moulds and associated tooling.
- Carrying out machine changeovers across different materials, batches and product types.
- Monitoring machine performance and adjusting parameters to maintain consistent output.
- Troubleshooting process, mechanical and material-related issues during production runs.
- Maintaining product quality through regular checks and controlling scrap levels.
- Recording production data, machine settings, material usage and downtime accurately.
- Cleaning, lubricating and maintaining equipment to prevent breakdowns.
- Supporting operator training and sharing best practice across the team.
- Maintaining a disciplined approach to health and safety at all times.
About You
- 3–5 years’ experience within extrusion or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical understanding and practical knowledge of extrusion processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and production specifications.
- Confident using measurement equipment such as callipers and micrometres.
- Good communication skills with a steady, team-focused approach.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
- Flexible to support shift requirements where needed.
- Desirable experience includes a forklift licence, exposure to plastic tubing, sheet or profile extrusion, and familiarity with lean manufacturing or structured workplace organisation.
